The symptoms appear in babies, such as-
  • Loss of appetite
  • Fussiness
  • Sweet- smelling urine

A blood sample is taken from the babys heel & is checked for high leucine levels.

To treat this disease, babies must eat a special formula that does not contain the amino acids feucine isoleucine, and valine. As the baby gets older they must always watch their diet, avoiding high protein foods such as meat, eggs, and nuts.
